Hardware Standards

Open Pluggable Specification OPS
Intel-led industry standard introduced in 2010 for slot-in computer modules in interactive displays, digital signage, and large-format screens. Standard module dimensions: 119×180×30mm with JAE TX25 connector.
OPS-C (Compact) OPS-C
Newer compact variant introduced ~2020, dimensions 195×180×30mm or 195×180×42mm. Designed for thinner display chassis and improved thermals. Uses the same JAE TX25 connector.
OPS+ OPS+
Extended OPS standard that adds a secondary high-speed connector for higher-resolution content (8K) and broader CPU support including Intel Xeon and FPGAs.
Smart Display Module SDM
Intel's evolution of OPS — smaller, housing-less form factor with PCIe x8 edge connector. SDM-S: 100×60×20mm (~10W TDP); SDM-L: 175×100×20mm (~45W TDP).
Interactive Flat Panel IFP
Large-format touchscreen display (typically 65"–98") used in education, corporate, and conference applications. Most modern IFPs include an OPS or OPS-C slot.
JAE TX25 Connector TX25
80-pin board-to-board connector defined by the OPS specification, manufactured by JAE Electronics. Carries display signals (DP, HDMI), USB, audio, and power between module and host display.

Hardware Components

Neural Processing Unit NPU
Dedicated AI accelerator integrated into modern Intel Core Ultra CPUs. Enables on-device AI inference (face recognition, gesture detection, real-time translation) without a discrete GPU. Typically ~11 TOPS on Intel AI Boost.
Thermal Design Power TDP
Maximum sustained power draw a CPU is rated for. Determines cooling requirements. OPS modules typically run 6W (N100) to 65W (i7-13650HX base, with bursts to 157W).
DDR4 / DDR5 SO-DIMM
Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module — laptop-class memory used in OPS, Mini PC, and Laptop products. DDR5 (newer) supports higher bandwidth and lower power per bit than DDR4.
M.2 NVMe SSD
Modern compact form-factor solid-state drive using NVMe protocol over PCIe. 2280 (22mm wide × 80mm long) is the most common variant in our products.
PogoPin connector
Spring-loaded contact pin used on rugged tablets for connecting to vehicle docks, charging cradles, or external accessories. Survives thousands of mate/unmate cycles.
RS-232 / RS-485
Legacy serial communication protocols still common in industrial deployments. RS-232 for short-range point-to-point; RS-485 for multi-drop industrial bus (e.g. Modbus RTU).

Mandatory product certification for the EAEU customs union (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan). Required for electronic products imported into these markets.
Conformité Européenne CE
European Conformity marking required for products sold in the European Economic Area, indicating compliance with health, safety, and environmental directives.
Federal Communications Commission FCC
U.S. regulatory body. FCC certification required for electronic devices sold in the United States and several Latin American markets that align with FCC standards.
Restriction of Hazardous Substances RoHS
EU directive restricting use of specific hazardous materials (lead, mercury, cadmium, etc.) in electronics. Required for EU market and increasingly mandated globally.
China Compulsory Certification CCC
Chinese domestic product safety certification. Required for products sold within mainland China; not needed for export-only products.
ISO 9001
International quality management system standard. Indicates that the manufacturer has documented quality control processes audited by accredited third party. All our partner factories hold current ISO 9001.
IP Rating IP65 etc.
Ingress Protection rating — first digit (0–6) is dust resistance, second digit (0–9) is water resistance. IP54 = light splash; IP65 = water jets; IP67 = brief submersion.
MIL-STD-810
U.S. military standard for environmental engineering testing. Covers 27 different test methods (drop, vibration, temperature, humidity, etc.). Often cited as "rugged" specification.

Software

Windows IoT Enterprise LTSC
Microsoft's long-term-support version of Windows for industrial and embedded deployments. 10-year support guarantee, no forced feature updates, lockdown features for kiosk and signage use.
Google Mobile Services GMS
Google's certification for Android devices that includes Play Store, Maps, Firebase, and other Google services. Important for retail/consumer Android tablets relying on the Google ecosystem.
Mobile Device Management MDM
Software platforms (Intune, SOTI, VMware Workspace ONE) for centrally managing fleets of tablets and laptops — enforcing security policies, deploying apps, remote-wiping lost devices.
SCADA / HMI
Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition / Human-Machine Interface. Industrial software running on factory PCs to monitor and control manufacturing processes. Major platforms: Ignition, FactoryTalk, AVEVA Edge, Wonderware.

Commercial Terms

Minimum Order Quantity MOQ
Smallest quantity a supplier accepts. SZO standard MOQ is 10 units; white-label production starts at 50 units; full ODM (custom hardware) starts at 500 units.
FOB / CIF / DDP
Incoterms defining who pays for what in international shipping. FOB Shenzhen = buyer takes ownership at port of loading. CIF = seller pays freight + insurance to destination port. DDP = seller delivers to buyer's door, duty paid.
Letter of Credit LC
Bank-guaranteed payment instrument. Buyer's bank guarantees payment to seller upon presentation of agreed documents (typically B/L). Reduces buyer-risk for new supplier relationships.
Bill of Lading B/L
Shipping document issued by carrier as proof of goods on board. Required for customs clearance at destination port. Often used as trigger for balance payment release.
Non-Recurring Engineering NRE
One-time engineering and tooling fees for custom (Tier 3 ODM) projects. Covers chassis tooling, motherboard layout design, BIOS customization. Amortized over first production run.
Original Equipment Manufacturer OEM
Customer buys standard product with their branding applied. We supply, they sell under their brand. Common for distributors and resellers.
Original Design Manufacturer ODM
Customer specifies the product (or co-designs with us) and we manufacture exclusively to that design. Tier 3 white-label arrangement.
Return Material Authorization RMA
Process for returning defective units to supplier for repair or replacement. RMA number issued by supplier authorizes the return shipment and tracks the unit through the repair flow.

Resource FAQs

Common research questions.

How do I get current certificate copies before placing an order?

Email sales@shenzhenops.com with the product SKUs you're evaluating and your target market. We'll send current dated PDF copies of CE, FCC, RoHS, and EAC certificates within 24 hours.

For first-time buyers we have a brief 5-minute verification call to confirm you're a legitimate business contact (we don't share certificates with random Alibaba accounts). After verification, we maintain you on our docs distribution list — future cert updates auto-forwarded.

Are the articles on this site free to share or excerpt?

Yes. All content under /resources/ and our articles is freely shareable with attribution. If you want to embed a chart, quote a comparison table, or paraphrase content into your own buyer guide, please link back to the source article. We're happy to provide higher-resolution chart images on request.

For commercial republishing (e.g. inclusion in a paid industry report), drop us an email — usually fine with proper attribution and a few editorial tweaks.

I have a question not covered in any of these articles. How do I get an answer?

Two paths. The fastest is WhatsApp (+86 159 8684 3573) — Vincent answers within a few hours during Shenzhen business hours and within 24 hours overnight.

For longer technical questions where written response is better, email sales@shenzhenops.com. If we don't have a published article on the topic and the question comes up frequently, we add it to our resource backlog and publish an article within a few weeks.

Do you offer training for our sales team on OPS PC products?

Yes — for white-label customers placing 100+ unit orders, we provide product training sessions (Zoom or Google Meet) for your internal sales team. Typical 90-minute session covering: hardware comparison, target use cases, common objections and answers, demo walkthrough, and Q&A. Free for active customers.

We can also provide pre-recorded video tutorials, sales enablement decks, and competitive battle cards comparing SZO products to specific competitor SKUs you encounter in your market.

Where can I find the latest industry news and trends in OPS / digital signage?

Our own articles cover major industry shifts (e.g. the OPS-to-SDM migration). Beyond our content, we recommend following:

Industry publications: Sixteen:Nine, AVnu Alliance, Digital Signage Today, InfoComm International.

Display brands' blogs: NEC/Sharp Display Solutions, Samsung Display, LG Display — they publish trend reports periodically.

Industry events: ISE (Integrated Systems Europe, Barcelona), InfoComm (US), Digital Signage Expo (US/EMEA), SIDC (Shanghai).

We attend ISE and InfoComm annually; happy to coordinate meetings on the show floor if you're going.

Have a specific research question?

We answer detailed questions in detail.

If you can't find what you're looking for in our 10+ articles, send a specific question. We answer in writing with the same depth as our published content — and if it's a great question, we'll turn the answer into a new article.
